A global innovation challenge, to discover abundant, clean energy
OUR INSPIRATION:
In 2004, the Ansari X-Prize offered a $20 million prize to anyone who could get to orbit twice, with a re-usable spacecraft, in a 2 week period.
One pioneering team won the prize, and birthed an entirely new era of reduced cost, private space flight overnight. Our goal is to catalyse similar radical change in the energy sector.
OUR GOAL: Crowd fund, crowd source, then completely open source the discovery of a completely new energy producing device. One that never runs out, never needs fuel and doesn't pollute.
WHAT
The Breakthrough Energy Project is a global innovation challenge that rewards blue sky energy research. We aim to discover working energy technologies that are:
- CLEAN - creates no pollution
- ABUNDANT - requires no fuel source
- ZERO COST - apart from purchase & maintenance
- EASY TO BUILD - using readily available parts
- SMALL SCALE - ready for decentralised home use, or embedding directly into devices
We are specifically looking for novel technologies that are not improvements on existing green technologies. This technology may operate using established physics, or new discoveries. We are interested in a working prototype, regardless of how it works.
HOW
We will setup our organisation as a DAO hosted on the blockchain to maintain openness, transparency and democratic control.
The DAO will organise our global team in planning and launching an international crowd-funding campaign to raise $1 - 5m for the inventor reward.
The team will then launch the Breakthrough Energy Project as a global scientific innovation challenge, that anyone can win with a working prototype.
Potential entrants will undergo extensive testing. Once the prize is awarded, the device schematics and IP will be released open-source to the world.
WHY
ENVIRONMENT - Climate change represents an existential threat to people and planet unless we can find a new energy source that is carbon-free.
ECONOMY - Runaway inflation, international conflicts and a rising cost-of-living affect everyone. The price and availability of energy underpins all of it.
FREEDOM - With an abundant source of clean and limitless energy, we can venture further away from plug points and fuel stations, explore further into space and underground, creating new options for humanity.
